It’s Super League’s 30th Birthday! | Round 6 Preview

The Birthday Round has arrived!

Super League will officially turn 30 on Sunday and celebrations are set to be in full swing!

Don’t forget to wear your retro kits in Round 6 as we come together for our big birthday!

Here’s what’s coming up this weekend…

Thursday 26 March

Castleford Tigers v Bradford Bulls (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

The Birthday Round will kick with Castleford Tigers versus Bradford Bulls – a repeat of a fixture played in Super League’s first ever opening round in 1996.

It’s going to be special as 30th birthday celebrations get underway at the OneBore Stadium, but who will be taking home the two points?

The 1996 result read 30-18 to the Bulls. Fast forward to 2026 and it’s Bradford who have had the better start to the season...

Tom Forber is included in Ryan Carr's squad as he joins the Tigers on a month-long loan.

For the Bulls, Kurt Haggerty has named new recruit Phoenix Steinwede in his 21-man squad – alongside Loghan Lewis, Brandon Douglas, Waqa Blake and Rowan Milnes, who all missed last week’s win over Huddersfield through suspension, HIA and injuries respectively.

Zac Fulton misses out through HIA protocols this week, with Eliot Peposhi serving the final game of his three-match ban.

Friday 27 March

Hull KR v St Helens (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

Friday Night Super League starts with Hull KR hosting St Helens at Sewell Group Craven Park.

Saints, who were inaugural Super League winners, will be looking to continue their strong start to the 2026 campaign and mirror that of 1996.

Meanwhile, the Robins will be looking to kickstart their season once and for all in their first Super League home game of the year.

It’s the current champions who have won their last five home meetings with Saints, including last year’s semi-final (20-12).

There's only one change to the Robins team with Jordan Dezaria coming into the squad to replace Rhyse Martin who picked up a foot injury in Round 5.

Meanwhile, Paul Rowley makes two changes to Saints squad that was victorious in France last weekend.

George Whitby is stood down after suffering a HIA and young Academy talent Chris Matagi is the other Saint to step out of the side.

Daryl Clark is named in the 21-man selection and Joe Shorrocks is also back available.

York Knights v Wakefield Trinity (20.00) – live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

York Knights have home advantage against Wakefield Trinity on Friday Night.

The Knights have taken to Super League like a duck to water and bravely pushed the former champions Wigan Warriors all the way in Round 5, before losing out 23-22.

Therefore, Trinity can ill-afford to underestimate their newly promoted opponents, although will be boosted over their recent wins against Leigh Leopards, Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC across all competitions.

There are no changes to the Knights squad this week and Trinity have made just one change with Will Tate dropping out of the side to make way for a returning Tray Lolesio.

Saturday 28 March

Wigan Warriors v Huddersfield Giants (15.00) – live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

It’s top versus bottom on Saturday as Wigan Warriors welcome Huddersfield Giants to town.

The Warriors have won their last eight home meetings with the Giants.

Following the announcement of Luke Robinson's departure from Huddersfield, interim head coach Andy Kelly will be hoping to inspire his side to a much improved performance.

Leigh Leopards v Toulouse Olympique (17.30) – live on BBC Two, Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Super League is back on the BBC as Leigh Leopards reunite with Toulouse Olympique for the first time since 2019 in the Betfred Championship.

Both teams will be keen for the two points this Saturday, with the Leopards searching for their first win since Round 1 and Toulouse hoping to secure a third win of the season.

Sunday 29 March - Super League's 30th Birthday!

Hull FC v Catalans Dragons (15.00) – live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Hull FC and Catalans Dragons’ most recent encounter was a thriller, with the Dragons pipping a 22-26 victory.

Both sides enter this match on the back of emphatic wins with the Black & Whites beating the Rhinos in Round 5, whilst the Dragons overcome the champions with some last-gasp drama.

Leeds Rhinos v Warrington Wolves (17.30) – live on BBC and Sky Sports

Leeds Rhinos host Warrington Wolves at AMT Headingley Stadium this Sunday evening in one of the standout fixtures of the Super League weekend, with the match doubling as a celebration of Super League’s 30th birthday.

The occasion marks exactly three decades since the first Super League game was played in 1996 and fittingly brings together two ever-present clubs from that inaugural season. The game is part of a special round of fixtures designed to honour the league’s history, with fans at Headingley set to enjoy a party atmosphere alongside the on-field action.

And on the field, the Wolves arrive in strong form and are sitting near the top of the table unbeaten.

Sam Burgess’ men will be targeting another statement win on the road, but will have to get past a Rhinos outfit who will be looking to respond to their loss away at Hull FC last week.

Back in front of the Headingley crowd, however, it’s expected to be a sensational spectacle.

Their foundation fixture in 1996 saw a result of 18-22 to Warrington - will there be another close contest on the cards as we mark the 30 years of Super League milestone?
